The Chief of Psychiatry Service at the Long Island Community Hospital (LICH) will provide both administrative and clinical oversight of the following areas in the Behavioral Health Service: Inpatient Psychiatric Unit, the Access Center, Outpatient Chemical Dependency Program, and the Medical Liaison\/Consultation Service. The position entails the day to day involvement and management of all areas in concert with other administrative and clinical leaders. Key responsibilities include strategic planning, program and policy development, alignment with all regulatory agencies, including OMH, OASAS, DOH, CMS, and DNV as well as the recruitment and retention of physician staff. The Chief will also remain current of evidence based practices to ensure highest quality of care is provided and that care is also efficacious. Position also requires direct patient care.\r\n\r\nMajor Responsibilities:\r\n\r\n\u2022 Provide clinical leadership and ensure high quality services for all patients cared for by the Service's staff, including ongoing quality, safety, and performance improvement programs.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Provide academic leadership to ensure high quality medical student clerkships, residency, and fellowship training programs.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Assist in the development of comprehensive plans for the growth and development of the Service, including strategic plans, operating budgets, capital budgets, and business plans.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Participate regularly and effectively with Nursing Leadership in the decision making processes and operational actions required for proper resource allocation, organized planning, and performance levels necessary to promote the efficient operation of the Service.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Develop and implement clinical service programs such as clinical systems information technology and patient\/family education to support the mission of the Hospitals.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Provide knowledgeable and effective administrative leadership, in close collaboration with pertinent Vice Presidents, Administrative Managers, and Nursing Directors in the operation and documentation of comprehensive departmental quality, safety, and performance improvement programs which conform to applicable legal standards, including NYSDOH and Joint Commission requirements and align Departmental goals with overall goals of NYU Langone.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Ensure that Departmental professional staff are oriented to and comply with Hospitals and FFIC policies and procedures, including chart reviews to assess medical staff compliance with institutional guidelines and timely completion of medical records.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Maintain clinically appropriate delineation of privileges for attending, resident physicians and nurse practitioners within the Service. Provide performance evaluations and competency assessments as required.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Monitor performance of the medical staff for re-credentialing utilizing clinical profiles and make recommendations for such reappointment.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Work closely with the Care Management and the Clinical Staff to implement best practice guidelines.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Provide overall supervision of house staff, fellows and advanced practitioners and provide for the collaborative practice with nurse practitioners on the Service. Ensure compliance with NYSDOH 405 regulations with regard to the supervision of house staff and their working hours on the Service.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Maintain overall financial accountability for all aspects of the Service, including participating in departmental budget targets and monitoring spending accordingly.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Effectively represents the LICH Psychiatry Service on all major medical and administrative committees.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Encourage recruitment of new attending physicians whose expertise will contribute to the excellence of the Service and effectively counsel physicians when appropriate in their interpersonal relationships with patients, families and\/or hospital staff.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Support outreach efforts to the external communities (patients and physicians and community based organizations) to assure the Hospitals visibility, reputation, ongoing relationship and developing opportunities as a means to assure growth strategies and community relationships.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Provide oversight in the reduction of Length of Stay by providing guidance to physicians on patient management in the LICH Psychiatry Service.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Support the process and manages the recommendations and corrective actions that result from investigations of significant patient adverse events, incidents or sentinel events involving the Service, determining whether standards of care were met and developing corrective action plans to address related issues and assures that there is ongoing monitoring of corrective actions.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Develop an environment and leadership style which motivates, encourages and educates staff, playing a key role in furthering the educational values and teaching mission of the organization and the department.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Proactively support LICH Core Values Code of Conduct and Ethics.
